Urs Fischer has reluctantly relieved the play-offs to Europe Conference League over the past few weeks. The focus of the coach of the 1st FC Union Berlin was always at the DFB Cup Party at TurkGücü Munich (1: 0) last Sunday and the Bundesliga prelude to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (15.30, live! At Conference League).
On Thursday, however, Fischer had to think about the European Cup in between. In the afternoon he looked at the return leg between the FC Astana (Kazakhstan) against Kuopio PS (Finland) with his trainer colleagues. The guests won after a 0: 2 and 1: 3 residue with 4: 3.
Return to Kuopio in the Olympic Stadium
After the 1: 1 in the first leg, the Finns to the Union opponent. Next Tuesday or Thursday, the Berliner in the play-off first leg against Kuopio in the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki. The exact date will be announced on Friday. The second leg is scheduled for the 26th of August in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
For the time being, the view from Union goes to Leverkusen, which has a Swiss coach with Gerardo Seoane like Union. "The Leverkusen team has changed a bit. There is one or the other struck player," says Fischer. "But if I look at the list, who could play, I see a strong team. We have to be ready for our challenging task."
When I look at the list, who might play, I see a strong team.
Urs Fischer About Bayer 04 Leverkusen
At Union, a similar formation as in Munich is expected. Unable to operate is still offensive man Sheraldo Becker (muscular problems) and midfektur Grischa Prömel (problems in the groin). There will be no squad for the offensive player Leon Dajaku (blindtharm-op) and Fabio Schneider (thigh injury).
Griesbeck needs some time
The same applies to Sechers Sebastian Griesbeck, although after an inflammation, it is already through complete units. Defender Rick Van Drongelen could incur in the event of an insert with a facial mask. The Dutchman had hurt on Monday in the test against Regionalligist VFV Borussia 06 Hildesheim (4: 0) on the nose.
Against Leverkusen, the Ironed in the past season brought four meters. At home there was a 1-0 victory, away a precious 1: 1 unensprint. "But we are not so far that we exclaim the favorite role when we play against Leverkusen," said Fischer.
16 lots at home unbeaten - starting games lost twice
Union has been unbeaten in the old Försterei since 16 championship games. But the first home game of the seasons 2019/20 (0: 4 against RB Leipzig) and 2020/21 (1: 3 against FC Augsburg) was lost. That should not be repeated. And after the game against Leverkusen, Fischer's full-end of so far suppressed European emotions.
